AUDITOR
The main purpose of Auditor is the review of what files are on a
system with presentation of that review in a Comma Separated Value
(CSV) file. CSV files can be read by most common applications
including Lotus 123 and DBase. Having the auditor file is useful
as part of maintaining the status of a large home computer system.
It is invaluable as part of a strategy for maintaining many systems
at work.
Auditor can also be used to search for files meeting specific
criteria on a system. However, there are some simple Fast File
search utilities that are better for simply spotting the location
of a single file or group of files.
Auditor requires DOS 5.0 or above to operate. It can be run from
a hard disk or from a boot diskette with nothing else other than
DOS 5.0 present. The shareware version of Auditor lacks the
following features available in the registered package:
* The ability to merge the current audit with prior audits.
This enables keeping track of files that showed for the first
time in this audit, files that were deleted from the last
audit, and the number of times each file has been recreated.
It also enables maintenance of short notes for directories
and/or files.
* A modest print utility that formats the Comma Separated file
and prints it for situations when Lotus or another package is
not available.
* Some features unique to maintenance of LAN operations such as
capturing a history of client CONFIG and AUTOEXEC files.
* The ability to change the name of the audit file(s).
* A clean start-up screen without all those money grubbing
shareware messages.
Auditor is run from the command line by entering AUDITOR. Once
started, it displays a full screen requesting data that it will
write to CFG.CSV. This is information about the machine being
audited. Next it displays a full screen for input of search
parameters. Pressing the ENTER key starts the search, which
defaults to all files on all drives. The search can be limited by
entering file name, size, date, or attribute ranges or values.
Movement between fields is done using the tab and back tab keys.
Experimentation will show the effect of choosing various parameters
and combinations of parameters.
Please register AUDITOR by sending $19 to me. If you wish to
receive the fully registered version, then please send $20. For
$20 you will receive a diskette with the registered EXE and a
longer DOC explaining the additional features. The form that
follows can be used for registration. The form can be printed as
part of this Doc file by entering PRINT AUDITOR.DOC.
